North Carolina Certifications

North Carolina accepts/recognizes the following certifications:
The State of North Carolina also has a Small Professional Services Firm (SPSF), which is a very similar to a SBE certification in other states. It was developed to provide sub-consulting opportunities for small businesses as defined by the US Small Business Administration, 13 CFR Part 121 in Sector 54. The SPSF program is a race, ethnicity and gender-neutral program designed to increase the availability of consulting opportunities for small businesses on federal and state funded contracts.

Getting a certification in the State of North Carolina opens the door to targeted government and private contracting opportunities. Most certifications have the following basic requirements:
  • The business must be at least 51% managed and controlled by either a women, minority, or disadvantaged owner who:
    • Works exclusively for the firm seeking certification
    • Has superior level of experience in the industry
    • Holds the highest title as specified in the operating agreement/bylaws
  • US Citizen (or for some certifications – a Green Card holder (legal permanent resident)
  • Must be a for-profit business
